The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris, the center of the Place is occupied by a giant Egyptian obelisk, the Egyptian government gave it to the French in the nineteenth century. The area was named Place Louis XV, during the French Revolution renamed Place de la Révolution, the first notable to be executed there was King Louis XVI, on January 21, 1793.
