Paris Expo at the Porte de Versailles hosts the annual Salon du Livre, France’s most important festival devoted to the humble book. Numerous events take place during this six-day fair, with scores of authors and illustrators participating in talks.

The Parc des Princes is located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, currently the home of football team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).  The name Parc des Princes (”Princes’ Park”) was given to the surrounding area during the 18th century, when it was a forest used by the royal family for hunting. The stadium is served by two stations on the Paris Métro: Porte de Saint-Cloud and Porte d’Auteuil.

The Maison de Balzac is a house museum in the former residence of French novelist Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850). It is located in the 16th arrondissement at 47, rue Raynouard, Paris.

The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, in Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondisement of Paris, is the biggest science museum in Europe. The Cité has a planetarium, a submarine (the Argonaute (S636)), an IMAX theatre (La Géode) and special departments for children and teenagers.

The Musée Rodin contains most of Rodin’s significant creations, including The Thinker, The Kiss and The Gates of Hell. Many of his sculptures are displayed in the museum’s extensive garden.

The Place de l’Étoile is a large road junction in Paris, the meeting point of twelve straight avenues and at its centre stands the Arc de Triomphe. The twelve avenues, clockwise from the north, are the following: Avenue de Wagram, Avenue Hoche, Avenue de Friedland, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Avenue Marceau, Avenue d’Iéna, Avenue Kléber, Avenue Victor Hugo, Avenue Foch, Avenue de la Grande-Armée, Avenue Carnot, Avenue Mac-Mahon.

The executions of the duc d’Enghien, in 1804, and Mata-Hari, in 1917, were effected at the château de Vincennes. The Château de Vincennes is a 14th and 17th century French royal castle in the town of Vincennes, to the east of Paris, now a suburb of the metropolis. Like other more famous châteaux it had its origins in a hunting lodge, set up for Louis VII about 1150 in the forest of Vincennes. To strengthen the site the castle was greatly enlarged replacing the earlier site in the later 14th century. A donjon tower, 52 meters high, the tallest medieval fortified structure of Europe, was added by Philip VI of France, a work that was started about 1337. Abandoned in the 18th century, the château still served, first as the site of the Vincennes porcelain manufactory, the precursor to Sèvres, then as a state prison, which housed the marquis de Sade, Diderot and Mirabeau.

The Musée Grévin is a waxwork museum in Paris, one of the oldest in Europe, located  in the IXe arrondissement  at 10, Boulevard Montmartre. The Musée Grévin now contains some 300 characters arranged in scenes from the history of France and modern life, including a panorama of French history from Charlemagne to Napoleon III, bloody scenes of the French Revolution, movie stars, and international figures such as Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, and Pope John Paul II.

Rue de Vaugirard is the longest road in Paris, at 4.3 km. It spans the 6th and 15th arrondissements, from the Latin Quarter towards the edge of Paris at the Porte de Versailles. The road appeared in the fifteenth century, and led from Philip II’s city walls towards the village of Vaugirard. This route was itself based on an old Roman road.

Les Halles is located in the 1er arrondissement, it was the traditional central market of Paris which was demolished in 1971 (the wholesale market was relocated to the suburb of Rungis) to be replaced with an underground modern shopping precinct, the Forum des Halles.Beneath this is the underground station Châtelet-Les-Halles, a central hub of Paris’s express commuter rail system, the RER.
