The Comédie-Française, a state theater  located in the Ier arrondissement of Paris, has its own troupe of actors. It was founded by a decree of Louis XIV. The repertoire at that time consisted of the collection of theatrical works by Molière and Jean Racine. The Comédie-Française today has a repertoire of 3,000 works and three theaters in Paris (salle Richelieu, next to the Palais Royal; théâtre du Vieux-Colombier; Studio-Théâtre).

The other theatre, previously named the Sarah Bernhardt and now known as the Théâtre de la Ville, offers top names in contemporary dance, innovative French theatre, and evening concerts of jazz or world music.

Le Zénith is the common name for more than a dozen similar, purpose-built concert venues in France. There are 15 such venues located in Caen, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Lille, Limoges, Montpellier, Nancy, Nantes, Orléans, Paris, Pau, Rouen, Strasbourg, Toulon and Toulouse. The first Zénith was built in Paris in 1983 to replace the converted slaughter-house Pavillon de Paris. The venue has a capacity of approximately 7,000 for concerts. It is located in the parc de la Villette, 19th arrondissement.
