An absolute must-see, in the center of Paris: the Square du Vert-Galant is a park named in honour of Henry IV, nicknamed the “Green Gallant”, located Ile de la Cité, 1st arrondissement.

The square Place Denfert-Rochereau is named after Pierre Denfert-Rochereau, the French commander who organized the defense at the siege of Belfort during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871). It is dominated by the Lion of Belfort statue (a smaller version of the original in the town of Belfort) by Frédéric Bartholdi (remembered mainly for designing the Statue of Liberty). The square is located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, in the Montparnasse district where is Paris Catacombs museum.

The Battle of Trocadero, fought on 31 August 1823, was the decisive battle in the Spanish Civil War from 1820 to 1823 when French forces defeated the liberal rebellion and restored the rule of King Ferdinand VII. The fall of Trocadero was commemorated in Paris, with the Place de Trocadéro. It is the site of the Palais de Chaillot,  in the 16th arrondissement and houses a number of museums: the Musée national de la Marine and the Musée de l’Homme in the southern Passy wing, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, including the Musée national des Monuments Français, in the eastern wing, from which one also enters the Théâtre national de Chaillot, a theater below the esplanade.

Odéon is named for the 18th-century theatre but today it is best known for its cinemas and cafés.
To the south of the Seine river to the east of the Boulevard Saint-Michel: Sorbonne university, centre of student activity since the early 12th century, bookstores, stationery stores and game shops.
To the north of the boulevard Saint-Germain to the east of the Boulevard Saint-Michel:  charming medieval narrow streets but filled with souvenir shops and restaurants fot tourists.

The place de l’Hôtel de Ville, formerly  the Place de Grève (Square of the Strand), was a place where Parisians often gathered, particularly for public executions but  it was used also as a public meeting-place for unemployed people gathered to seek work. This circumstance accounts for the current French expressions, être en grève (to be on strike) and faire la grève (to do a strike).

Place Vendôme is one of the best squares in Paris, located in the 1st arrondissement.
It was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Known as Place des Conquêtes, to the glory of the armies of Louis XIV. The Column was erected by Napoleon to celebrate the victory of Austerlitz. Location of the Ritz Hotel, Cartier, Chaumet and Charvet.

Located in the Marais district, 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Known as the Place Royale, built by Henri IV, 17th century.

The Place de l’Étoile is a large road junction in Paris, the meeting point of twelve straight avenues and at its centre stands the Arc de Triomphe. The twelve avenues, clockwise from the north, are the following: Avenue de Wagram, Avenue Hoche, Avenue de Friedland, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Avenue Marceau, Avenue d’Iéna, Avenue Kléber, Avenue Victor Hugo, Avenue Foch, Avenue de la Grande-Armée, Avenue Carnot, Avenue Mac-Mahon.

Place des Ternes is a square in the 8th and 17th arrondissements of Paris, at the junction of Avenue de Wagram, Boulevard de Courcelles, Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré and Avenue des Ternes. The famous Brasserie La Lorraine is located there.

The Place du Tertre is a square in Paris XVIIIe arrondissement, near  Montmartre’s Basilica of the Sacré Cœur and the Lapin Agile. With its many artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the Place du Tertre is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century, many penniless painters including Picasso and Utrillo were living there.
