The station was built for the World Exposition of 1900. Most notable is the large clock tower atop one corner of the station, similar in style to the clock tower of the United Kingdom Houses of Parliament, home to Big Ben. The station houses the Le Train Bleu restaurant, which has served drinks and meals to travellers and other guests since 1901 in an ornately-decorated setting. The station was comically featured in Mr. Bean’s Holiday starring Rowan Atkinson.

Louis Pasteur (1822 – 1895) was a French chemist and microbiologist. His discoveries reduced mortality from puerperal fever, and he created the first vaccine for rabies. He was best known to the general public for inventing a method to stop milk and wine from causing sickness, a process that came to be called pasteurization. In many localities worldwide, there are streets named in his honor. In Paris, Boulevard Pasteur and Metro Pasteur are located in the 15th arrondissement.

The Comédie-Française, a state theater  located in the Ier arrondissement of Paris, has its own troupe of actors. It was founded by a decree of Louis XIV. The repertoire at that time consisted of the collection of theatrical works by Molière and Jean Racine. The Comédie-Française today has a repertoire of 3,000 works and three theaters in Paris (salle Richelieu, next to the Palais Royal; théâtre du Vieux-Colombier; Studio-Théâtre).

The Musée du quai Branly (the Quai Branly Museum) features indigenous art, cultures and civilizations from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. French President Jacques Chirac was a very influential proponent of the project. The building was designed by architect Jean Nouvel. A building four stores tall whose walls are entirely cloaked in living vegetation from roof to sidewalk, the “living wall” designed and planted by Gilles Clément and Patrick Blanc.

The museum is located at 37, quai Branly – portail Debilly, 75007 Paris, close to the Eiffel Tower.

The Paris Jazz Festival is an annual summer event which presents a programme of free concerts in the Parc Floral, at the heart of the Bois de Vincennes. Highlights of recent editions have included performances by artists such as Didier Lockwood, Cesaria Evora and Claude Nougaro. The concerts begin at 3pm and are free to all those who have paid the standard park entry fee.

La Géode is a sphere with a diameter of 36 metres and an Omnimax theatre in the Parc de la Villette at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, 19th arrondissement. It houses a movie theater with a 1000 m2 hemispheric screen and shows movies on nature, space and journeys using the Omnimax technology.

Pigalle is famous for being a touristic district, with many sex shops on Place Pigalle and the main boulevards and prostitutes operating in the side streets. The Moulin Rouge, a world-famous cabaret, is located in Pigalle. It is an area on the border between the 9th and the 18th arrondissements.

An absolute must-see, in the center of Paris: the Square du Vert-Galant is a park named in honour of Henry IV, nicknamed the “Green Gallant”, located Ile de la Cité, 1st arrondissement.
