My Fair Lady, one of the most beloved musicals of all time based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1914 novel Pygmalion, is performed in English at the Theatre du Chatelet, from 09/12/2010 to 02/01/2011. Phonetics professor Henry Higgins takes it upon himself to transform Eliza Doolittle, a lowly Cockney flower-girl, into a duchess by teaching her to mimic the distinct and distinguished aristocratic accent. Don’t miss it!

The station was built for the World Exposition of 1900. Most notable is the large clock tower atop one corner of the station, similar in style to the clock tower of the United Kingdom Houses of Parliament, home to Big Ben. The station houses the Le Train Bleu restaurant, which has served drinks and meals to travellers and other guests since 1901 in an ornately-decorated setting. The station was comically featured in Mr. Bean’s Holiday starring Rowan Atkinson.

The exhibition presents the whole work of Yves Saint Laurent, one of the greatest French designers. 307 models created since the designer started at Dior’s in 1958, but also sketches, photographs and films.

The exhibition is open until August 29.

The Nuit des Musées is an initiative launched by the French Department of Culture in 1999. Each spring (in 2010, 15 may), the museums of Paris, and the rest of the EU till 2001, stay open until 1 AM and entrance is free. It also boasts performance art and other happenings. Several museums, including the Louvre, will open their doors for free this Saturday, so don’t miss out.

The place de l’Hôtel de Ville, formerly  the Place de Grève (Square of the Strand), was a place where Parisians often gathered, particularly for public executions but  it was used also as a public meeting-place for unemployed people gathered to seek work. This circumstance accounts for the current French expressions, être en grève (to be on strike) and faire la grève (to do a strike).

Place Vendôme is one of the best squares in Paris, located in the 1st arrondissement.
It was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Known as Place des Conquêtes, to the glory of the armies of Louis XIV. The Column was erected by Napoleon to celebrate the victory of Austerlitz. Location of the Ritz Hotel, Cartier, Chaumet and Charvet.

Designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc and opened in 1995, la Cité de la Musique is  situated in the La Villette quarter, 19th arrondissement,  221, Avenue Jean Jaurès. It consists of an amphitheater, a concert hall and a museum of music. The Paris Philharmonic (philharmonie de Paris), a 2400-seat symphony hall, had been planned for about 20 years and is now scheduled for completion by 2012.

J.M.W. Turner’s English landscape paintings established his reputation as one of the finest landscape artists of the 19th century. The influence of the Ancient Masters and Turner’s contemporaries alike can be seen in the landscapes on display here.

Located in the Marais district, 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Known as the Place Royale, built by Henri IV, 17th century.

The Eiffel Tower, named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel,  located on the Champ de Mars in Paris was built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World’s Fair. The tower stands at 324 m (1,063 ft) tall, it was the tallest structure in the world from its completion until 1930, when it was eclipsed by the Chrysler Building in New York City. The tower has three levels for visitors. Both the first and second levels feature restaurants.
